Stories

Rescue dog Peabody

Peabody

Peabody was used for breeding but abandoned on the street when she became old and ill. She had multiple mammary tumours and is partly blind. You can clearly see the sores on her legs where she has been kept on a hard concrete floor.

Peabody is a golden retriever who was found roaming the streets of Cairo, having been abandoned. She had been used as a breeding dog but when she became too old and ill to breed, she was thrown out onto the streets. Discarded like rubbish.

Rescue dog Lina

Lina

Lina is about 6 months old and has been through so much during her young life. Lina was dumped at our shelter door, having experienced extensive burns from hot water being thrown over her. We quickly provided vet treatment, giving her pain killers and applying soothing cream to her burns. She’s still full of trust and love, receiving antibiotic injections, as well as vital liver and kidney support – but this treatment all costs money.

Lina has experienced more cruelty in her young life than any dog should. Suffering extensive burns to her body and face she was dumped like rubbish at the doors of our shelter.

Rescue dog Titan

Titan

Titan had been so badly treated but is the sweetest boy. Titan is a Shih tzu and Yorkshire terrier cross and is about 2 years old. He was barely recognisable as a dog when we found him on the streets – so full of mange and suffering with diseases caused by ticks.

We nursed this poor boy back to full health, giving him all the love, food and medicine he needed to heal. And best of all he was adopted by a family in Paris where he’s now living out his days happy and content. But rescuing dogs and getting them ready for adoption is expensive. And we see so many dogs like this. That’s where you can help.

Titan was full of mange and diseases carried by ticks – when we found him he was barely recognisable as a dog. Just two years old and suffering so much.

We nursed him back to health, and provided treatments such as antibiotics and liver support medication. Just look at Titan now! Loved and cared for in his forever new home.

About Mira Dogs

ABOUT MIRA DOGS

Established in 2011

Welcome to Mira Dogs, an animal welfare charity on a mission to rescue and transform the lives of abandoned dogs from the bustling streets of Cairo. Founded by the compassionate visionary Mira Gamal in 2022, our organization has been a beacon of hope for countless canine companions who have faced unimaginable hardships.

In the bustling streets of Cairo, many families find themselves in heartbreaking situations where they can no longer afford to provide for their beloved dogs. Tragically, this has led to a growing population of dogs left to fend for themselves, subjected to abuse, neglect, and, at times, even torture for mere amusement.

At Mira Dogs, we believe that every dog deserves a second chance at a better life. Our dedicated team of volunteers works tirelessly to rescue these precious animals from the harsh realities of the streets. Upon arrival at our shelter, each dog undergoes a comprehensive health check and receives the necessary vaccinations to ensure their well-being.

We are proud to collaborate with esteemed animal charities like alldogsmatter.org to give these resilient dogs an opportunity to find loving forever homes. Our ultimate goal is to unite these courageous survivors with compassionate families who will provide them with the love and care they deserve.

Join us in our mission to make a difference in the lives of Cairo's abandoned dogs. Together, we can create a world where no dog is left behind, and every tail wags with joy.

'These are pampered house dogs that are in no way equipped to deal with the street and in a lot of cases, by the time we reach them, it is too late to save them' Mira Gamal
